Crux Fidelis

Faithful Cross! above all other

one and only noble Tree!
None in foliage, none in blossom,
none in fruit thy peer may be;
sweetest wood and sweetest iron!
sweetest weight is hung on thee.

Bend thy boughs, O Tree of Glory,
thy too rigid sinews bend;
for awhile the ancient rigour
that thy birth bestowed, suspend,
and the King of heavenly beauty
on thy bosom gently tend.
Verses from Crux Fidelis

I stumbled across this photograph on the internet and this hymn instantly came to mind. I felt that it was too good not to share. I truly love this time of year.

One of my absolute favourite hymns ! A wonderful pictorial pairing, Michael.

It is wonderful. I'm siting here now, listening to a recording of the hymn and just pondering the picture. I'm off to church tomorrow afternoon and I'll not be getting home until sometime in he early afternoon of Easter Day, and so I'll probably watch The Passion of the Christ tonight.

Wonderful!

I too have been listening to recordings of Crux Fidelis - Vol 7 of New English Hymnal (Priory Records) sung in English by the choir of All Saints, Margaret Street. And I also have a CD of traditional Gregorian chant for Good Friday.
