Metropolitan Anthony
A friend bought me this book a few weeks back, and I have started to read it this week. I haven't done much reading in recent years, but I have got into the practice of taking a book to work with me to read on the bus.
This is a window into the life and heart of a wonderful man, of whom, to my shame, I had never heard of until it was bought for me. It's one of those books that makes me sad that he died before I heard of him. I am only as far as the fifth chapter, but I have gained such insight into the personal effects that the atrocities of the 20th century had on individual families.
I look forward to reading and posting more. Does anybody have any experiences of him that they would like to share? I'd love to learn more about him.

One and the same.
There are a few photos in the book, one of which shows him pictured with Archbishop Mark of the Berlin, Germany and Great Britain diocese of ROCOR. I hope things mend between the two jurisdictions soon. So much of nthe Orthodox world is hoping for it.
I may have misremembered the book title. On his publication list, it's called _Living Prayer_. Sorry!

What I have read so far has really captured me. I can't wait till Monday so I can read some more. :-)
Well, _Beginning to Pray_ must just have been missing of the Publications list. He did write it too, and both _Beginning to Pray_ and _Living Prayer_ are available from such places as Amazon. I remember reading them both many, many years ago, when they were selections of the US "Episcopal Book Club". I may owe the ECUSA more than I imagined--that book club also sent me "The Way of a Pilgrim and The Pilgrim Continues His Way." Hmmm.

Yes Leetle M, this is Metr. Anthony of Sourozh, in fact Moscpat Metropolitan of Great Britain and living in London for many, many years. He was the face of Orthodoxy in Britain for decades - along with Bp. Kallistos (Ware). Metr. Anthony and Bishop Kallistos were original patrons of the Orthodox College at Cambridge University.

I have "Beginning to Pray" and I like it. But I also like Peter Kreeft's little book on prayer too.
